Evenacre, Birmingham Freshwater Aquarium

Project
Evenacre acquired the prestigious listed building Victoria House, Birmingham in the summer of 2010. As part of the refurbishment an aquarium was to be situated within the board room of the office on the first floor, sitting in a recess within the wall spanning the full length of the room.

Features
The 2.6 metre long aquarium and holds approximately 500ltrs. As the aquarium is situated within the board room, it was important that it was not too much of a visual distraction during presentations. A layered lighting scheme was created, made up of 2 x 38 watt actinic-blue fluorescent tubes and 6 submersible LED lamps all on an automated timer with remote control. The LED lamps situated underneath the air stones create illuminated air columns adding dramatic focal points through-out the layout, they also gives the display a secondary lighting solution, creating a subdued visual impact when the tank main lights are switched off. The fascia is made of high gloss, laminated white HDF panels. These panels offer sound proofing to nullify the hum from the aquarium life support equipment. An auto feeder was also integrated into the system feeding the fish twice a day giving the owner the well needed flexibility of day to day care.
